DESCRIPTION: WW - Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT Master "no crown guards," ref 6542, circa 1958, 38mm x 47mm to lug tips, 20mm lug width, original stainless steel screw back Oyster case with faceted lugs and bi-directional nickel plated brass bezel, aftermarket luminous bezel insert, brown leather strap, original gilt chapter ring black service dial with luminous painted indices, date aperture at 3 with original roulette black and red date wheel, 25J cal 1030 with butterfly rotor, s#427280, triple signed, inside back ref 6542 with a IV 1958 date code. This was the first generation of GMT Master that Rolex produced and from the numerous scratches and scrapes it's apparent it has been through quite a lot; if only it could tell it's stories.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good GMT function, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, very little oxide to steelwork, light wear to brass on high edge of main plate and rotor; dial with numerous areas of paint loss as well as ample spotting to surface, luminous paint missing at 2 and 5 with partial loss at 4; replacement service hands including the wrong minute hand and the incorrect GMT which should be a small triangle not a large triangle; polished case shows light wear, lug chamfers are rounded but still visible, dings on the backs of the lugs from bracelet wear as well as the case back, bezel is almost completely worn to brass with hardly any nickel plate still showing; Rolex signed crown shows little wear, good threads; good crystal; resealed for auction.
